BMW celebrates seven millionth vehicle at US plant


SPARTANBURG (South Carolina): BMW Manufacturing has reached a historic milestone as the seven millionth BMW rolled off the assembly line here.

The commemorative vehicle is a BMW Alpina XB7 in Alpina Green Metallic, powered by a 4.4-litre BMW Alpina Bi-Turbo V8 engine producing 631hp.

Due to its significance, this vehicle will remain at the factory as part of BMW's historic collection.

"This beautiful BMW Alpina XB7 is a testament to the great products we have, the quality of our supplier network, and the unwavering commitment and dedication of our valued associates," said BMW Manufacturing president and CEO Dr Robert Engelhorn.

The milestone vehicle was assembled in late March, with special "white glove" modifications added by the plant's Alpina team. Features include 23-inch Alpina Classic CS16 wheels, Tartufo Full Merino Leather upholstery, and a panoramic LED roof.

The South Carolina plant assembled around 400,000 BMWs in 2024, with nearly 225,000 exported to 120 countries worldwide.

Previous million-vehicle milestones were reached in 2006, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2022.

BMW Group is investing over US$1.7 billion (RM7.3bil) in its US operations, including US$1 billion (RM4.3bil) to prepare the US plant for electric vehicle assembly and US$724 million (RM3.1bil) for a new battery assembly plant in nearby Woodruff. By 2030, the Spartanburg plant aims to produce at least six fully electric vehicles alongside conventional and hybrid models.

Since 1992, BMW Group has invested more than US$15.3 billion (RM66bil) in South Carolina.

The Spartanburg facility is BMW's largest plant globally, producing over 1,500 vehicles daily and employing more than 11,000 people.
