SYDNEY: The new all-electric BMW iX4 SUV (sport utility vehicle) coupé has celebrated its world premiere, and offers long-distance capability, rapid charging and the latest generation of BMW digital and driving technologies.
The new iX4 is planned to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2027 with two variants, each featuring a dual electric motor all-wheel-drive system.
The iX4 40 xDrive is the entry variant model, and has a 82.6kWh battery, produces 275kW/374hp and 520Nm of torque, and can travel up to 638km (WLTP).
Meanwhile, the iX4 50 xDrive has a 108.7kWh battery, produces 345kW/469hp and 645Nm of torque, and can travel up to 828km (WLTP).

The range-topping BMW iX4 M60 xDrive will join the line-up later in 2027, adding M-specific all-wheel-drive technology, chassis enhancements, distinctive design elements and digital features.
The iX4 M60 xDrive produces 450kW/612hp and 875Nm of torque.
The iX4 features 800-volt electrical architecture and introduces the full benefits of sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology.
The iX4 50 xDrive supports ultra-fast DC charging at up to 400kW, enabling up to 387km (WLTP driving range) to be added in 10 minutes.
Charging from 10 to 80 per cent can be completed in 21 minutes.
The iX4 40 xDrive supports DC charging at up to 300kW, while AC charging of up to 22kW is available across the range.

The iX4 is the third model in the Neue Klasse family and introduces the brand's next-generation design language to the electric SUV coupé segment.
A drag coefficient of 0.23 contributes to aerodynamic efficiency and long-distance capability.
At the front, the BMW kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a single graphic element.
The standard M Sport package enhances the vehicle's dynamic appearance with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, M Sport brakes with blue callipers and model-specific exterior and interior appointments.
A full-length panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing is fitted as standard.

There is also a luggage compartment of 490 litres that expands to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded, and an additional 58 litres of storage beneath the bonnet.
The cabin introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X.
The system brings together BMW Panoramic Vision, an optional BMW 3D head-up display, a 17.9-inch central display and a new multifunction sports steering wheel with illuminated shy-tech controls.
BMW Panoramic Vision projects relevant information across the lower section of the windscreen, positioning key driving content in the driver’s natural field of view.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, while the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant supports natural-language interaction and proactive suggestions.

At the centre of the iX4 driving experience is the Heart of Joy high-performance computer, one of four specialised “superbrains” in the Neue Klasse electronics architecture.
It integrates control of the drive system, braking, recuperation and steering-related functions and operates up to 10 times faster than previous systems.
The result is more precise and composed handling, smoother transitions between acceleration and deceleration, and highly effective energy recuperation.
In everyday driving, up to 98 per cent of braking can be achieved through recuperation without use of the friction brakes.
About 30 per cent of the vehicle is manufactured using secondary materials.
The BMW iX4 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, which operates using electricity sourced exclusively from renewable energy during normal production and without the use of fossil fuels.
