KUALA LUMPUR BMW Malaysia today announced the arrival of the new M2 to the Malaysian market, with online pre-booking now open as the marque celebrates BMW M GmbH’s 50th anniversary.

Two M2 versions are offered. The estimated price for the M2 and M2 with Pro Package are RM598,800 and RM642,800 respectively.

The two-door compact coupé has a chassis that brings racetrack technology to the road. It features a reduced height and lower roof line.

Both versions are powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six cylinder petrol engine making 460hp and 550Nm of torque.

Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the M2 goes from 0-100kph in 4.1s and has a 250kph top speed. The top speed can be raised to 285kph if the customer pays extra for the M Driver's Package.

The rear-wheel driven M2 features active M differential that promises high traction in any driving condition.

The car gets a new unframed kidney grille design with horizontal slats. It has a striking apron and large, nearly square shaped air intakes that underscore the high cooling requirements of the engine and brakes.

Standard are adaptive LED headlights and front wings made of aluminium to lighten the car. The bonnet comes with a power dome.

From the side, the M2 incorporates large surfaces and rectangular shapes into a classic three-box design with widened side skirts and flared wheel arches.

The M2 gets blue brake calipers and staggered wheels – 19-inch for the front and 20-inch for the rear. The Pro version comes with red M Compound brakes and staggered wheels as well.

A spoiler lip increase aerodynamic downforce, with rear diffuser and M twin tailpipes being the other notable features.

Only the Pro gets a carbon fibre roof.

At 4,580mm long, 1,877mm wide and 1,403mm tall, with wheelbase at 2,747mm, the car sees an increase of 119mm in length, 33mm in width and 54mm in wheelbase, while height has been reduced by 11mm.

Boot space is 390 litres but can be increased with the 40/20/40-split folding rear backrest.

BMW has plonked its BMW Curved Display with M specific displays on the dashboard. The display comprised a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and the 14.9-inch control display embedded with BMW Operating System 8.

M Sport seats are electrically operated with specific side bolsters, providing lateral support when cornering fast.

A head-up display is available for the first time in the M2. The two rear seats have more legroom as a result of the increased wheelbase.

Exclusive to the Pro are M seat belts and carbon fibre M interior trim.
