New BMW M2 CS gets full reveal, packs 530hp and track-ready dynamics

MUNICH: BMW M GmbH has unveiled the new M2 CS, its most powerful compact sports coupé yet, ahead of a late-summer 2025 launch.

Priced at €115,000 (RM549,000) in Germany, the special-edition model will be built in limited numbers at BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico and sold primarily in the USA, Germany and China.

A first preview of the car’s styling was shown on May 23 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in northern Italy.

Under the bonnet sits an uprated version of BMW’s 3.0-litre straight-six M TwinPower Turbo engine, now delivering 390kW/530hp at 6,250 rpm and 650Nm of torque between 2,650 and 5,730 rpm — gains of 37kW/49hp and 50Nm over the standard M2.

The M2 CS matches the performance of the M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and the M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive.

The eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic sends drive to the rear wheels, enabling a 0–100kph sprint in 3.8 seconds (3.5 seconds with 1-foot rollout) and a limited top speed of 302kph. A map-controlled oil pump and enhanced cooling keep the high-revving unit in peak condition, while optimised accelerator mapping sharpens response in all drive modes.

Intelligent lightweight construction has cut 30kg from the standard M2.

Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) features in the bonnet, roof, boot lid and interior centre console, and forged M light-alloy wheels are standard.

The two-door car sits 8mm lower on a bespoke adaptive M chassis, with recalibrated springs, dampers, stability control, M Sport differential and M Servotronic steering. Braking is handled by standard M Compound brakes with red callipers; an optional M Carbon Ceramic system is also offered.

Exterior enhancements include a matt-black front splitter, exposed-CFRP ducktail spoiler, blacked-out M kidney grille and CS-specific rear diffuser.

Four paint options are available: Sapphire Black, Velvet Blue, Brooklyn Grey and Portimao Blue metallic. Adaptive LED headlights with Selective Beam and Shadowline inlays complete the look.

Inside, the M2 CS combines Merino leather and Alcantara upholstery with carbon-fibre trim.

Heated M Carbon bucket seats with integrated head restraints and illuminated CS logos anchor the cockpit, which features a flat-bottomed M Alcantara steering wheel, red 12 o’clock marker and two M Setup buttons.

The digital BMW Curved Display spans a 12.3 inch instrument cluster and 14.9 inch control screen running BMW Operating System 8.5, while BMW Live Cockpit Professional, head-up display, Harman Kardon surround sound and two-zone climate control are standard. Smartphone integration supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Driver aids include front-collision warning, cruise control with braking, lane-departure warning and parking assistant.

Options extend to Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Driving Assistant Pro. Track-focused features such as M Drift Analyser and M Laptimer sit alongside adaptable traction-control settings.

Combined WLTP fuel consumption is rated at 10.0 l/100km with CO2 emissions of 226 g/km, placing the car in class G. The BMW M2 CS promises to blend road usability with uncompromising track performance.
