The launch of the BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre coincided with celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of the 3 Series, a model that has shaped the premium automotive market since its introduction.

Over the span of half a century, the 3 Series has evolved through seven distinct generations, each contributing to the brand’s strong heritage in performance, design innovation, and driving pleasure.
The first generation, identified by the internal code E21, heralded the series’ inception in 1975 and set the foundation with its compact form and dynamic driving characteristics. The second generation, under the code E30 and produced between 1982 and 1991, introduced increased versatility and established the series’ reputation for technological advancements.
The third generation, known as the E36 (1990–1998), expanded the range of body styles and further cemented the series’ position in the market by balancing sporty performance with practical design innovations.
Following this, the fourth generation, labelled E46 (1997–2006), built on the series’ legacy and achieved record-breaking sales, marking a turning point in the BMW 3 Series’ success.

The fifth generation, designated E90 (2005–2011), saw a revolutionary shift in design philosophy, introducing modern aesthetics and performance credentials that reflected evolving consumer expectations.
The sixth generation, known as the F30 (2011–2018), embraced newer powertrain technologies with turbocharged and hybrid variants, solidifying the model’s commitment to innovation while differentiating itself from related model lines.
Currently, the seventh generation, designated as the G20 (2018–present), incorporates advanced technology and connectivity while being offered with a range of petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and all-wheel-drive configurations.
BMW Group Malaysia also used the event to announce the company's sales performance.

In the first quarter of 2025, the goup delivered a total of 586,149 vehicles across its BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce brands. Of these, 520,142 units were BMWs, including 86,449 fully-electric models.
The group recorded a 32.4% increase in fully-electric vehicle deliveries, reflecting the effect of its electrification strategy. At the same time, MINI achieved a 4.1% year-on-year growth with 64,626 units delivered and an electric share of 35.3%, while BMW Motorrad reported deliveries of 44,609 motorcycles and scooters across both two- and four-wheeled segments.
The BMW Group has set targets to deliver three million electrified vehicles and 1.5 million fully-electric vehicles in 2025, maintaining a focus on performance, sustainability, and design.
The launch of the M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre highlights this approach by commemorating 50 years of the 3 Series and marking a continuing evolution.
The 50th anniversary celebration will include events from April 18 to 20 at The Yard, Sentul Depot, here where the complete history of the 3 Series will be on display for the public.
