The new M3 Competition and the new M4 Competition Coupé are now equipped with the M xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The system precisely channels the engine’s power to all four wheels, providing the driver a thrilling interpretation of the hallmark M performance characteristics, with even faster acceleration times and enhanced traction on wet surfaces in everyday driving.

The M xDrive all-wheel drive system is characterised by a deliberate rear-wheel bias, where power is only channelled to the rear during normal driving – but when the vehicle reaches its traction limits, the system sends power to the front wheels as well.

The M xDrive, complemented by the Active M Differential at the rear axle, also allows the driver to customise the all-wheel-drive system’s characteristics via three different driving modes of 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD.

Powering both cars is the BMW M TwinPower Turbo 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

This configuration offers the new variants an impressive maximum engine output of 375kW/510hp and a peak torque of 650Nm, achieving a century sprint in 3.5 seconds.

The roof of both vehicles is made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) as part of BMW’s intelligent lightweight construction.

Customisation and optional equipment including exterior colours, interior upholstery, interior trim, driving assistance and M Performance Parts amongst others, can be added at special rates later via the online configurator.

M5 and M5 Competition

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of BMW M, the M5 and M5 Competition will also arrive with the BMW M 50 Years Emblems as standard.

Both variants feature a host of new M-specific exterior equipment including M rear spoilers as well as a new three-dimensional element on the LED rear lights.

The M5 Competition is also 7mm lower than the M5 and is set up for higher track performance with tweaks to suspension and springs.

The 4.4‑litre V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology has been tuned to a maximum output of 600hp and a peak torque of 750Nm for the M5, and 625hp with a peak torque of 750Nm for the M5 Competition.
