MUNICH: BMW is launching the next generation of the X1 in autumn, and for the very first time the small SUV will also be available as a fully electric vehicle.
Buyers can choose between three different powertrains. In addition to combustion engines and plug-in hybrids, the X1 will also be available with an all-electric drive system.
The iX1, powered by an electric motor with 230 kW/313 hp on tap, has a maximum range of 438km, according to the German brand.
While the electric version is scheduled to launch by the end of the year, BMW says the X1 will be available with a range of diesel, 48V mild-hybrid petrol and plug-in hybrid engines from October.
With the arrival of the new generation, prices for the X1 have slightly gone up, starting at €41,400 for the smallest petrol engine model and €43,950 for the basic model of the diesel, according to BMW.
Customers will probably have to pay at least €55,000 for the electric iX1.
