BMW turns its iX SUV into an M-tuned sports electric with 690hp

LAS VEGAS: Half a year after the launch of BMW's iX, the company is turning its rugged electric SUV into the first electric among the company's sports cars.

From June onwards, the tuning specialist's at BMW's M workshop will also be selling the SUV as their first electric model - the iX M60, starting in its home market at €130,200 (RM623,000).

BMW's factory tuners promise record-breaking performance data for about a third more in price compared to the previous top model.

The iX - presented at the electronics trade fair CES here - comes with two electric motors and a total of 690hp.

With 1,015Nm, it is the first BMW to achieve four-digit torque, meaning drivers are likely to disappear into their seat when they try to accelerate from a standstill to 100kph in the promised 3.8 seconds.

According to BMW, the so-called Launch Control can even unlock 1,100Nm for a short time. Although it weighs around 2.5 tonnes, this iX can reach a top speed of 250 kph, according to the manufacturer. That's 50kph more than the standard model.

BMW puts the range of the 111kWh battery at 566km and the consumption at 21.7 kWh at best. The design has also been sharpened up a little, the equipment expanded and the set-up made a little sportier.
