MUNICH: A facelift on the outside and a more high-tech cockpit on the inside - that's the gist of BMW's latest version of the 8 Series, returning in three body variants later in 2022.

The biggest difference can only be seen at night, when the grand tourer's new kidney grille lights up as standard on all models.

From March onwards, the German car maker will roll out the coupé, convertible and gran coupé versions of its luxury car with a modified design and interior - no prices are being given yet.

Looking at it from the outside, the biggest difference you'll notice is at the front end, where new chrome bars pull your eyes towards the kidney grille.

On the inside, the main difference is a screen that has been enlarged from 10.25 to 12.3 inches, in addition to new fabrics and colours.

Nothing much has changed in the drive system, however.

The 8 Series is still available as an 850i with a 4.4-litre V8 engine producing 530 hp, as well as with two six-cylinder engines, each with a capacity of three litres.

The petrol engine comes as the 840i with 333 hp. The diesel bears the abbreviation 840d and is listed with 340 hp.

An M8 is also in the works and set to deliver 625hp/750Nm from the turbo V8. It will also be available in the three bodystyles as the 8 Series.

The central common feature of the M8 trio is the "emotive" drive and chassis technology.

Due to its typical M high-speed character, the engine develops high drive torque over wide load ranges, which is optimally placed on the road via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The 0-100kph is done in 3.2 seconds (M8 Competition Coupé and M8 Competition Gran Coupé) or 3.3 seconds (M8 Competition Cabriolet).

A chassis technology developed with racing know-how and tailored to each model is said to ensure harmony of dynamics, agility and precision in driving behaviour.

The BMW Laser Light of the M8s can be optionally specified with M lamps Shadow Line for a sportier front look. The Shadow Line introduces a dark design of the inserts and chrome elements inside the headlamps, along with the high-gloss black frame of the BMW kidney.
