LOS ANGELES: Another box office marvel is joining the Fast & Furious family.

Brie Larson will star in the upcoming 10th movie in the main series of Fast & Furious films, Vin Diesel announced in an Instagram post on April 9.

“You see this angel over my shoulder cracking me up, you say to your self ‘that’s captain Marvel,’” Diesel captioned a selfie with Larson.

“Clearly there is love and laughter in this image. What you don’t see however, is the character you will be introduced to in Fast10. You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology,” he continued. “Beyond her beauty, her intellect... her Oscar, haha is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for. Welcome to the FAMILY Brie.”

Diesel, who has starred as street-racer-turned-international-hero Dom Toretto in nearly all of the Fast & Furious films, didn’t provide any details about Larson’s character in the next movie, which zooms into US theatres in May 2023.

“Excited doesn’t even begin to explain how I feel about joining the Fast family,” Larson wrote Sunday on Instagram. “Thank you for welcoming me in with so much kindness and excitement, @vindiesel.”

Larson, 32, won the Oscar for best actress in 2016 for the drama Room, and portrays the superhero Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Her addition to Fast & Furious excited other members of car-and-crime film franchise, as actors Jordana Brewster and Ludacris shared celebratory emojis in the comments section of Diesel’s post.

Larson becomes the latest big-name star to land a role in the Fast & Furious movies, joining Charlize Theron, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Helen Mirren, Gal Gadot and John Cena.

The previous film in the series, F9, premiered last year.

Next year is shaping up to be a big one for Larson, who also has the superhero sequel The Marvels out in February. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
