Brunei imposes charges on land border travellers

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei's Exit and Entry Charges Order 2020 has now come into full effect, imposing a service charge of B$3 (RM9.20) per person for a one-way trip and B$6 (RM18.30) per person for a return trip on all citizens, residents and foreigners travelling through land border checkpoints.

According to Haji Mohd Amin Liew, Brunei's Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, government officers conducting official duties on behalf of Brunei government are exempt from paying the charges.

The exemption also applies to several categories, including children aged two and below; consular officers and staff and their family members; and diplomatic agents.

The minister said that travel restrictions for Brunei citizens and residents are still being imposed, according to the Ministry of Health. — Xinhua
