BYD Seal Dynamic launched at RM163,800, Atto 3 enhanced and maintains price at RM149,800
By JAY WONG | 06 September 2024KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Malaysia has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the entry-level Seal Dynamic and enhanced Atto 3 sports utility vehicle (SUV).
Launched at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, the Seal Dynamic sedan in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) only form is priced on-the-road without insurance at RM163,800, while the Atto 3 maintains its pricing at RM149,800.
The new Seal Dynamic offering joins the higher range Seal Premium (RM179,800) and Seal Performance (RM199,800) which were launched in February.
As an introductory offer, the first 100 bookings of Seal Dynamic will include a complimentary Wallbox home charger.
The Seal Dynamic is covered by a six-year or 150,000km warranty and this includes an eight-year or 160,000km high voltage battery and an eight-year or 150,000km drive unit warranty.
To set it apart from the higher-end variants, the Seal Dynamic comes with a new and smaller set of 18-inch wheels with 225/50 series tyres.
Compared with the Premium and Performance variants which use a 82.5kWh LFP battery, the Seal Dynamic comes with a smaller 61.44kWh LFP pack.
The electric motor delivers 150kW and 310Nm of torque and the Seal Dynamic can support up to 110kW of DC charging.
Range is 510km (NEDC) for this 1,922kg EV and it can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 7.5 seconds.
The cabin includes a PM2.5 filtration system for cleaner air. Like the other Seal variants, it sports the same 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with BYD App and voice command functionality among others to power up the 12-speaker Dynaudio premium sound system.
The Seal Dynamic is also awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating and its safety features are similar to those used in the Seal Premium and Performance.
Among the items are nine airbags as well as the Advanced Driver Assist Systems and a high-resolution 360-degree camera system.
The new variant comes in two colour options of Cosmos Black and Aurora White.
BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said the company's goal is to make EVs accessible to everyone.
"This new variant marks another step in that direction," he said.
Sime Darby Motors managing director Andrew Basham said Seal Dynamic would give consumers more choices on the variant of the Seal lineup to consider.
He said more than 2,200 units of the Seal had been sold since its launch early this year to August.
"The Seal's strong appeal to the Malaysian market is evident, being the best-selling EV in recent months.
"We are pleased to expand this offering, enabling even more Malaysians to enjoy a sporty EV at a competitive price point without compromising on the sleek design, cutting-edge technology and network support," he said.
As for the Atto 3, it now has a higher capacity 60.48kWh battery which increases the driving range from 410km to 480km.
The battery is now able to accept DC charging up to 88kW from 70kW previously.
Acceleration from 0-100kph is also quicker at 7.3 seconds from 7.9 seconds previously while wheels are larger at 18-inch from 17-inch.
Other new features are a one-touch tailgate, PM2.5 air filter, multi-colour gradient door handle ambient lighting with music rhythm and an upgraded eight-speaker (from six-speaker) sound system.
The first 300 bookings for the new Atto 3 will get a complimentary Wallbox Home Charger, a three-year service package as well as four years of free road tax.
For those interested, both vehicles will be available for viewing at the nearest BYD Showroom or at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Carpark B, from Sept 6 to 8.
Visitors to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium Carpark B can also enjoy exclusive promotions where those who book either vehicle during the period will be entitled to an RM800 charging credit on a first-come-first-served basis and will also stand a chance to win an all-electric BMW CE 02 Motorrad.
