KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Motors (SDM) and BYD Malaysia has secured more than 1,300 bookings for the BYD Seal electric vehicle within four days of its launch at The Exchange TRX last week.
Due to the overwhelming demand for the electric sedan, SDM is extending its early booking campaign until March 3.
Customers who place a booking for the BYD SEAL through the official website or at nationwide showrooms before the end of March 3 will receive complimentary home chargers and free Gentari or ChargEV charging credits worth RM800. Terms and Conditions apply.
SDM Southeast Asia managing director Jeffrey Gan said the response from Malaysians clearly demonstrated their readiness to embrace electric vehicles (EVs) from BYD which continue to make waves here and in other parts of the region.
"This achievement also marks another milestone in the robust evolution of the country’s EV market," he said.
"The new model has been widely recognised for its superior quality and exceptional performance, coupled with a highly competitive pricing strategy.

The BYD Seal is available in Premium RWD (rear-wheel drive) and Performance AWD (all-wheel drive), priced from RM179,800 and RM199,800, respectively.
Among the features are a driving range of up to 650km and BYD's advanced e-platform 3.0 technology.
The EV is offered in Arctic Blue (exclusive to the Performance variant), Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey and Aurora White (for the Premium model).
One of the customers who not only participated in the test drive but also proceeded to place a booking, shared his experience.
Calvin Poh said the Seal's design was very appealing compared to electric sedans of the same price range.
"The build quality and the interior were very impressive and premium. The driving experience during the test drive was so quiet and refined that I decided afterwards this is the EV that I want to buy," he said.

The Seal is offered with an extensive aftersales support such as a warranty package that provides a 6-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, 8-year or 160,000km battery warranty, and a 8-year or 150,000km drive unit warranty.
In addition to these outstanding warranties, SDM goes the extra mile by offering optional Standard and Plus Service packages, tailored to suit individual needs for durations of three years, six years, and eight years.
Exclusive enhancements include tyre alignment, balancing, and rotation.
