BYD Sime Motors loans out BYD EV models to Transport Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: BYD Sime Motors is partnering the Transport Ministry to advance the nation’s low-carbon mobility agenda.

Under the six-month "Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT" programme, BYD Sime Motors will provide a full range of BYD electric vehicles (EV) for Ministry staff to test drive while its partner Gentari had installed two EV chargers at the Ministry's headquarters in Putrajaya to recharge the vehicles.

The initiative, which was launched by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Sime Motors managing director for Southeast Asia Jeffrey Gan, would see BYD's Sealion 7, Seal, Atto 3 Ultra, M6 and Dolphin models loaned out to the Ministry personnel.

This partnership will also allow Ministry personnel to provide direct feedback and practical insights into their experience and everyday convenience of EVs and their usability.

Gan said BYD Sime Motors is proud to be at the forefront of the initiative in leading Malaysia’s transition to electric mobility together with the Transport Ministry.

"We remain focused on our goal of supporting the Ministry’s carbon emissions reduction efforts. Through this immersive experience, we hope to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles, not only by the public but also within government mobility use," he said.

Beyond the product experience, the initiative marks a strategic step in creating viable pathways for EV integration within government operations, supporting the broader shift toward a sustainable and low-carbon transportation system.

The installation of Gentari's two 22kW AC chargers also outlines the importance of strong public-private partnerships in building a reliable, safe and accessible EV charging network across Malaysia.

To date, Gentari operates over 530 EV charging points nationwide and is actively contributing to the national target of 10,000 public chargers by this year, in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
