BYD's Denza JV with Mercedes-Benz a success in 2023


SHENZHEN, China: Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant BYD Auto's record-breaking sales in 2023 was partly due to the impressive performance of sub-brands such as Denza, a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, in the premium segment.

In a statement, the company said Denza sold 127,840 units in 2023, with the Denza D9 seven-seater emerging as the annual MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) sales champion.

BYD also pointed out that in 2023, the company had completed its brand matrix, including the Dynasty series, Ocean series, Denza, Fangchengbao, and Yangwang.

"This development solidifies BYD's position as having one of the most extensive portfolios in the global new energy sector," said the company, addng that the Dynasty and Ocean series achieved impressive sales of 2,877,353 units, marking a 55.3% increase from the previous year. v

BYD had concluded 2023 with a record-breaking 3,024,417 vehicles sold, a substantial 61.9% surge from the previous year.

The year also marked BYD joining the world's 10 biggest car companies by sales for the first time.

In the Chinese market, BYD retained its position as the best-selling car brand and manufacturer.

In 2023, BYD's international market presence also surged remarkably, with exports growing by 334.2% to 242,765 units and its reach expanding to over 70 countries on six continents.
