JOHOR BARU: The first day of the CarSifu Auto Show 2022 at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey here has attracted crowds and curious visitors.

Wing Leong, who visited the Toyota booth with his wife Shye Lim, were looking for a new car to replace their five-year-old vehicle.

The couple, on their annual leave, said holding the event at a shopping mall is good as they can go shopping and visit participating booths.

“We want to upgrade to the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid,’’ said Leong.

The 35-year-old salesman from Taman Sri Tebrau said he and his wife would probably return for a visit before the event ends this Sunday.

Leong said his 35-year-old wife, who works as a graphic designer, also has a liking for the Corolla Cross.

“The sports utility vehicle (SUV) is suitable for a small family like us, especially for a long drive,’’ he added.

Apart from comfort, they are also looking for safety, fuel efficiency and eco-friendly factors when buying a new car.

“We also hope to get our new SUV in time for us to go back to our hometown in Melaka to celebrate Chinese New Year in January next year,’’ Leong said.

Syafiq Aiman also took the opportunity on his day off to visit the auto show.

The customer service officer, who has been driving an older model of the Honda City for six years, is planning to change to a new Honda City 1.5 V-Sensing variant.

“So far, my current car has not given me any problems but it is high time for me to change to a better model,’’ added Syafiq.

Initially, he was interested in the Honda HR-V, but decided to go for the City model as he has budgeted below RM100,000 for a new car.

Syafiq, who came with his friends to the event, said they also give their thumbs up to his choice of car.

The 26-year-old from Gelang Patah, who works in Singapore, said he will only use the new car on his days off.

Syafiq did not foresee any problems securing a loan for his new car as he plans to sell his current one. Earning a salary in Singapore currency is also an advantage.

“I’m riding a motorcycle to work in Singapore daily,’’ said Syafiq.

He hopes to book the car soon and drive it by the end of the year.

The five-day event is organised by Star Media Group and runs until Sunday.
