ESSEN: The fireworks are starting well before New Year's Eve: That could be the motto at Brabus, where the German muscle-car tuners have put a revised Mercedes-AMG GT four-door coupe rocket on wheels.

If the home market price of around €400,000 (RM1.9mil) doesn't frighten you off, you'll likely be blown away the 900hp of muscle in this Rocket 900s, which Brabus says is one of the strongest and fastest Gran Turismos in the world.

The company has completely redesigned the four-door Mercedes with a significantly wider and more bulky carbon fibre body and reworked the interior.

The engine has of course also been beefed up and instead of 4.0 litres, the V8 petrol engine now has a capacity of 4.5 litres, according to Brabus.

Two new turbochargers put extra pressure on the engine to up the output of petrol pumps, while the electronics are optimised with a few new lines of programming.

As a result, the output has increased from an already ample 639hp to a massive 900hp and the maximum torque climbs to 1,250Nm.

The starting power has to be reduced to 1,050Nm in order to protect the gearbox, and yet this Gran Turismo, which weighs a good two tonnes, still achieves super-sports-car-level performance.

From a standstill it accelerates to 100kph in 2.8 seconds, according to the manufacturer, and can hit 200 kph after 9.7 seconds.

The top speed is "just" 330kph, but only because there are no faster tyres available, Brabus says, shifting the blame somewhat.

All this excessive performance of course comes at a rather significant environmental cost. This GT consumes an average of 11.5 litres, resulting in CO2 emissions of 260 g/km.
