SYDNEY: Chery Australia is expanding the C5 model lineup to now include a hybrid powertrain.
The C5 Hybrid will bridge the gap between the petrol variants and the all-electric E5.
The C5 Hybrid utilises a series-parallel hybrid system, which combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor.
Together, the combined output figures of 224PS/295Nm are sent to the front wheels through a single-speed dedicated Hybrid Transmission.
Fuel usage is rated at 4.9 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
Safety is at the core of the C5 Hybrid, which comes equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), seven airbags and a 360-degree camera (Ultimate variant only).
Regarding the interior, all C5 variants come standard with dual 12.3-inch display screens (instrument cluster and multimedia touchscreen), synthetic leather seats with front seats heating, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Chery’s intelligent voice command.
“The C5 Hybrid is the ideal car for people who aren’t ready to jump completely into the EV (electric vehicle) space and still want the convenience of a petrol-powered vehicle,” said Chery Australia chief operating officer Lucas Harris.
