PUTRAJAYA: More than 3,400 runners turned up for the inaugural Chery Eco Run 2024 on Jan 7, themed "A New Journey To A New Green Life".

The fun run event began at Dataran Wawasan in Putrajaya and featured two categories the 5KM and a 10KM category for seasoned runners who were seeking a slightly more challenging route.

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz flagged off the 10km category runners together with Chery Malaysia president Leo Chen, which saw Tengku Zafrul taking part in the run as well.

Meanwhile the 5km category runners were flagged off by MITI secretary general Datuk Hairil Yahri Yaacob.

“Chery Eco Run serves as a significant stepping stone for us as we stride towards a future where electric vehicles and green technology seamlessly integrate with today's active lifestyle, fostering a healthier living environment,

“As a brand, Chery aims not only to be recognised within this shift but also to take a pioneering role in driving these advancements,” said Chery Malaysia president Leo Chen.

Chen went on to add that through initiatives like the Chery Eco Run, the automotive brand hopes to raise more awareness and promote a culture that is environmentally responsible as well as encourage local communities to lead a heathier lifestyle.

Little Fighter Runners (Persatuan Pelari Anak Luar Biasa) also sent a team of avid runners to join in the fun.

The team’s entry fee was sponsored by Chery Malaysia. Due to overwhelming response, Chen said Chery Malaysia is looking into turning the run into an annual event.

At the event participants and visitors also had a chance to view Chery’s fleet of vehicles such as the Omoda 5, Tiggo 8 Pro and the soon to be launched Omoda 5E, a pure electric car which were on display at the event site.
