LONDON: Chery International has reached a major global milestone, with cumulative vehicle sales surpassing 20 million units worldwide.
This is the first time a China-based OEM (original equipment manufacturer) group has reached such a milestone.
Chery International UK CEO Gary Lan said, “Reaching 20 million global vehicle sales is a landmark achievement for everyone at Chery International globally. It reflects nearly three decades of innovation, investment and continuous improvement, as well as the trust placed in our brands by customers around the world.
Today, Chery International-manufactured vehicles are sold in more than 130 countries and regions, supported by an expanding worldwide manufacturing, research and development, and retailer network.
The 20-millionth vehicle to leave the production line was the new Chery Fulwin A9, a premium long-range intelligent electric saloon – sold outside of the UK.
The milestone carries particular significance for Chery, as the original Fulwin was the company’s first production model and among its earliest vehicles to be exported to international markets.
During the first half of 2026, Chery International exported 943,800 vehicles worldwide, representing year-on-year growth of 71.5%.
The company also achieved four consecutive monthly export records, with one Chery International-built vehicle shipped overseas every 17 seconds.
For UK customers, the achievement comes as Omoda and Jaecoo, Chery and recently-launched Lepas continue to strengthen their presence in the market.
Omoda entered the UK market in August 2024, followed by sister brand Jaecoo in January 2025.
In August 2025, they were joined by Chery in September 2025, and finally by Lepas in the summer of this year.
The four brands complete the current Chery International line-up in Great Britain.
Founded in 1997, Chery International has played a leading role in the development of China’s automotive industry.
It became the first Chinese automotive brand to surpass one million cumulative vehicle sales in 2007.
The group has also ranked as China’s largest passenger vehicle exporter for 23 consecutive years.
The company now employs 150,000 people worldwide, including more than 20,000 staff based outside its home market.
