SUBANG JAYA: Chery Malaysia has completed the handover of all 50 vehicles under its Temporary Vehicle Assistance Programme to families affected by the recent gas inferno incident in Putra Heights, Selangor.
The initiative, announced on April 2, is part of Chery’s ongoing commitment to support local communities during times of crisis.
The company subsequently delivered the first batch of 25 vehicles, two days later, with the remaining units handed over to the final group of recipients on April 9.
The assistance programme was initiated to assist families who have lost their homes and means of transport, helping them regain mobility and access essential services such as medical appointments, school runs, and daily commuting.
Chery Malaysia worked together with the offices of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han and the local authorities to coordinate the distribution of vehicles.
The one-month vehicle loan by Chery also included RM100 in fuel assistance for each recipient.
In addition, Chery also donated RM50,000 to the Putra Heights Mosque, which has been serving as a temporary evacuation centre for over 80 affected families.
The donation aims to ease the mosque’s operational burden, particularly in managing rising utility costs.
