KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia recently celebrated medal-winning young para-athletes at a recognition ceremony, marking the finale of a month-long campaign designed to support the Malaysian contingent throughout the Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) 2025 held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The event held at the National Sports Council (NSC) was graced by Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohd Taufiq Johari, who witnessed Chery Malaysia presenting a contribution of RM208,000 to the National Sports Council (NSC).
The contribution supports Malaysia’s AYPG medal winners and extends RM1,000 to all participating athletes as part of Chery’s support for their AYPG journey.
Demonstrating Chery Malaysia’s commitment to inclusivity and community empowerment, the initiative reflects the automotive brand’s belief that meaningful partnerships can unlock the potential of Malaysia’s next generation of para-athletes.
“At Chery, we believe that sports help build strong character. Through discipline and hard work, sports can shape your future and open doors to countless opportunities — and all of you have proven this through your achievements,” said Chery Malaysia executive vice president Men Lin Bo.

He added that Chery will continue supporting the Malaysian community, particularly in sports and youth development, to help young athletes grow, improve, and achieve their dreams.
This year’s AYPG saw Malaysia achieve its best performance in history, securing 14 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals across eight sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, boccia, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo.
It was a remarkable improvement from just 13 medals won at the previous edition held in Bahrain.
Among the standout performers were swimmer Elysha Cheong Hui-Yin, who secured four gold medals and one bronze, and the badminton pair Cheah You Zhou and Ahmed Shahputra Abdul Rahim, who clinched gold in the Men’s Doubles SH6 event.
Cheah also added two bronze medals to his bag through the Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles (with partner Gladys Grace Didin).
Swimmers Wahyu Eqwal Nazrey and Sharline Valerie Voo Wen Qin also came out victorious with five medals each.
Wahyu received gold medals in 50m Backstroke (S1-5), 100m Freestyle (S5) and 50m Freestyle (S5) and two silver medals in 50m Butterfly (S2-7) and 200 IM (S5/6).
While Voo received three silver medals in 100m Backstroke (S6-7), 100m Freestyle (S6-7) and 50m Freestyle (S3-6) and two bronze medals from the 50m Butterfly (S2-7) and 100m Breaststroke (SB6-9) events.
Chery Malaysia’s support for the local team began earlier this month, when the automotive company provided mobility support with a full convoy of its latest SUVs (sport utility vehicles) to transport 29 athletes together with their coaches from the Malaysia Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre in Kampung Pandan to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Chery Group also played a prominent role at AYPG 2025 through its partnership with AiMOGA.
Two intelligent robots — Argos, the robotic pet, and Mornine, the humanoid robot — made memorable appearances at the opening ceremony.
Throughout the Games, young athletes also visited the Chery Group’s exhibition booth to explore the premium Tiggo 9, interact with Argos and Mornine.
Both Argos and Mornine incorporate advanced capabilities such as autonomous following, dynamic balance, precise obstacle avoidance, and millisecond-level responsiveness.
