Chery Omoda 5 gets five-star Asean NCAP rating
By JAY WONG | 13 August 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia's Omoda 5 sports utility vehicle (SUV) has achieved a five-star rating in the New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian countries (Asean NCAP).
The B-segment SUV is the first model under the Chery brand to be evaluated by Asean NCAP where the company provided two units of the Omoda 5 for test purposes.
The SUV managed to attain a total score of 88.64 points.
The points were calculated based on Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) covering 40 points of the overall score where it was given 36.77 points.
The AOP test included a frontal impact test at 64kph and a side impact test where a moving barrier travelling at 50kph was sent into the side of the SUV.
“Achieving a five-star Asean NCAP safety rating is a testament to our continuous commitment to safety, innovation and most of all, to our customers," said Chery Malaysia vice-president Michael Chew during the media announcement.
As for the remaining tests, out of a maximum of 20 points allotted for each category, the Omoda 5 scored 17.36 points for Child Occupant Protection, 19.51 points for Safety Assist technology and 15 for Motorcyclist Safety.
“The Omoda 5’s high scores across the four categories demonstrate our comprehensive approach to safety and our dedication to continuous improvement,” Chew said, adding that the rating also showed Chery SUVs were built with safety as the highest priority.
