SHAH ALAM: In a first for an automotive brand in the country, Chery Malaysia has obtained the SIRIM certification for the electric vehicle (EV) lithium battery pack in the Omoda E5.
SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd CEO Nur Fadhilah Muhammad said, "“This achievement signifies more than a certification; it reflects Malaysia’s progress in adopting globally recognized safety and quality standards."
In a statement, Chery Malaysia said it also looks forward to obtaining SIRIM certification for its EV batteries in upcoming models.
Also, Chery Malaysia plans to expand its range of electrified vehicles (xEVs) beyond battery EVS to include plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) in 2025.
At present, Chery’s only all-electric vehicle in Malaysia is the Omoda E5, priced at RM146,800 and is available in Aqua Green, Khaki White, Phantom Grey and Dark Black.
The Omoda E5 is powered by a 61kWh lithium-ion phosphate blade battery, and the EV delivers 201hp and 340Nm of torque, while boasting a Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) 430km range.
In October, Chery rolled out its first completely knocked down (CKD) unit of the Omoda E5 from the Inokom Plant in Kulim, Kedah.
The Omoda E5 has also earned five-star safety ratings from both the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) and the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP).
