KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Auto Malaysia aims to launch four new vehicle models in 2024, including the all-electric Omoda E5 SUV (sport utility vehicle) in the first quarter, followed by the Tiggo 7 Pro SUV in the second quarter.

The company says the Tiggo 7 Pro is powered by a 197hp/290Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol direct injection engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Its 0 to 100kph sprint is done in 8.3 seconds.

Features will include 18-inch alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 17 ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) functions, a panoramic sunroof, 540-degree panoramic camera system, dual-12.3-inch unified screens, ventilated front seats and an eight-speaker Sony Premium Audio system.

"The Tiggo 7 Pro will offer the best of the Tiggo 8 Pro, in a smaller body," said Chery Auto Malaysia product director Michael Chew at a media briefing.

Also, in the pipeline for the fourth quarter of 2024 is a model which Chew said would be more affordably priced and is set to increase the company's sales volume.

"In terms of the volume game, we want to move a notch or two - slightly below where the Omoda 5 SUV is. The model will have the right features, but not overly loaded - to meet the needs of first-time Chery buyers," he said.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged Omoda 5 was launched in July 2023, priced on-the-road without insurance at RM108,800 (C-variant) and RM118,800 (H-variant).

Meanwhile, no details were provided regarding the fourth model slated to be launched in 2024.

The event also saw the company signing an memorandum of understanding on a brand collaboration with integrated car e-commerce platform Carsome.

On its nationwide expansion, Chery Auto Malaysia aims to grow its dealer network from 32 outlets (as at end-2023) to 48 outlets in 2024.

“By end-2024, we hope to have at least 48 outlets in operation and that will also contribute to 70% increase in our 3S and 4S (sales, service, spare parts, shop for body and paint) centres,” said the company's network development director Soon Boon Ping, adding that the strategic move aims to enhance accessibility for customers.

He also highlighted the commitment to invest significantly in the training and skill development of both sales and after-sales teams, underscoring the brand's dedication to continuous improvement and excellence.

“With more outlets and partnerships in the pipeline, this will serve as a platform to showcase Chery's latest models, cutting-edge technology, and exemplary customer service,” said Soon.

Chery Auto Malaysia vice-president Lee Wen Hsiang also pointed out that the company delivered more than 4,500 units in 2023 with over 80% consisting of the Omoda 5.

Lee added that a sales satisfaction survey, conducted by the company, had more than 1,000 customers giving the brand an exceptionally high score of 94 over 100.

"We have steadfastly prioritised resolving customer issues, and this commitment remains a top priority in 2024," he said, emphasising the brand's dedication to ongoing improvement and customer satisfaction.
