Chery Tiggo 9 AWD: RM167K (Flexi), RM180K (Prime)

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia has officially launched the Tiggo 9, its new flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV).

The seven-seater model becomes the largest SUV in Chery's Malaysian line-up and marks the brand's first premium SUV offering in Malaysia.

Offered in Flexi and Prime packages, the Tiggo 9 AWD is priced at RM166,800 and RM179,800 respectively.

Unveiled at the historic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, the Tiggo 9 combines luxury-focused features, advanced technology and a powerful turbocharged powertrain as Chery expands its presence in Malaysia's competitive D-segment SUV market.

Speaking at the launch, Chery Malaysia vice-president Lee Wen Hsiang described the Tiggo 9 as an important milestone for the company.

"The Chery Tiggo 9 is our new flagship, the largest in the Tiggo family offered in Malaysia. From its bold presence to its smooth, refined finishes, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to reflect confidence, sophistication, and modernity," he said.

Lee added that the model introduces a new level of refinement and technology for the brand, setting "a new benchmark in what we call intelligent luxury—where advanced technology, comfort, and innovation come together to create a truly elevated driving experience."

The launch event was also attended by Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin.

Visually, the Tiggo 9 adopts a more upscale design language than its smaller siblings.

The front fascia features a large three-dimensional diamond-pattern grille flanked by slim LED headlamps, while flush door handles, integrated rear lighting and 20-inch alloy wheels contribute to its premium appearance.

The SUV is available in Matte Grey and Carbon Black exterior finishes.

Inside, the Tiggo 9 offers a three-row seating layout designed to accommodate larger families while maintaining a strong emphasis on comfort.

The flexible cabin configuration allows luggage capacity to expand from 143 litres to as much as 2,065 litres depending on seating arrangements.

Luxury-oriented features include massage functions for both front seats, while ventilated seats are fitted to the first and second rows.

A panoramic sunroof further enhances cabin ambience, while rear passengers benefit from dedicated air-conditioning controls, individual air vents, privacy glass and window shades.

A 14-speaker Sony premium audio system comes as standard.

Technology is another key focus. The dashboard is centred around a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, alongside wireless smartphone charging.

Other features include a 64-colour ambient lighting system, a head-up display, cooled centre armrest storage compartment and a driver monitoring system that helps improve safety by tracking driver alertness.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine producing 256PS and 390Nm of torque.

The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

According to Chery, the Tiggo 9 records fuel consumption of 8.3 litres per 100km and offers seven selectable drive modes comprising Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand and Off-Road settings.

Safety equipment includes 10 airbags and a body structure made up of 85% high-strength steel, including 21% hot-pressed steel.

The SUV is also equipped with Chery's ADAS 2.5 suite featuring 23 advanced driver assistance functions, including Automatic Park Assist.

As part of an early bird launch package, Flexi package buyers will receive a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, a 10-year or one million kilometre engine warranty, and five years of free scheduled maintenance.

Buyers of the Prime package will additionally receive a RM5,000 cash rebate, RM3,000 fuel subsidy and one year of complimentary insurance worth RM4,500 under the early-bird launch promotion, in addition to the standard warranty and maintenance package. -Zachary Ho
