Chery Tiggo 9: RM189k (est), 2.0T (AWD), 7-seater, 256PS/390Nm

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Auto Malaysia has previewed the new Chery Tiggo 9 in Malaysia that will soon become the company's new flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Due to be positioned above the Tiggo 8 Pro upon its official debut, this seven-seater SUV will arrive as Chery’s most premium offering yet, featuring a more upmarket cabin, all-wheel-drive capability, and an extensive list of features.

The Tiggo 9 takes aim at discerning customers currently seeking a large SUV that doesn't break the bank with an estimated price of RM189,000, while offering two colour options of Matte Grey and Carbon Black.

Warranty is the company's usual seven-year or 150,000km coverage (whichever comes first), and this will entail an additional seven-year or 150,000km engine warranty.

An official early bird package will be announced during its official launch in June (2026).

While sharing the same wheelbase as the Omoda C9 at 2,800mm, the Tiggo 9 seems to possess an arguably more visually imposing look while measuring 4,810mm in length, 1,925mm in width, and 1,741mm in height.

The 65-litre fuel tank provides the proverbial juice for the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to produce 256PS and 390Nm of torque - all managed by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for the all-wheel-drive system.

Fuel consumption stands at a claimed 8.3 litres per 100km, while 0 to 100kph sprints are dispatched in 9.3 seconds.

Furthermore, drivers gets a choice of six driving modes of Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-Road.

Externally, the Tiggo 9 possesses a large front grille, flanked by automatic LED headlights with intelligent hi-beam control, while the rear sports LED light clusters that are connected by a full-width light bar on the powered tailgate that comes with hands-free accessibility to the 448-litre boot (expandable to 2,065 litres).

It also rolls on 20-inch alloys fitted with 245/50 series tyres (full-sized spare wheel provided) that partially obscure the disc brakes that can be secured via an electric parking Brake with Autohold function.

At 1,887kg (kerb) for this SUV, the suspension system uses front MacPherson struts and rear multi-links.

Inside, the cabin's seven seats are upholstered in faux-leather, while including upmarket kit such as walk-away auto lock, double-glazed acoustic glass, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and dual-zone climate controls.

The multi-function steering wheel with its electric power steering system and powered adjustability can be further refined via Comfort or Sport steering modes.

Meanwhile, both front seats are also powered, with the driver receiving 10-way adjustability with memory and welcome function, while the front six-way powered passenger seat also benefits from ventilation, boss controls, as well as heating and massage functions.

Second-row passengers also get ventilation and heating functionality, access to a dedicated climate control panel, rear cabin air vents, powered windows with one-touch and anti-pinch functionality, as well as window sunshades.

The dashboard features a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, to power up the 14-speaker Sony sound system.

A cooled 50W wireless charger is included along with "Hello Chery" voice commands, multiple USB ports across the first and second rows and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a heads-up display.
