Chery X concept debuts in Indonesia: 1st transformable 7-seater SUV


JAKARTA, Indonesia: The Chery X concept made its Indonesian debut recently at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW).

Billed as the world's first transformable multi-purpose SUV (sport utlity vehicle), the Chery X concept was designed to address the core challenge of "one person, multiple roles — one vehicle, multiple uses."

With a length of 4,900mm and a wheelbase of 2,800mm, the SUV concept provides a generous interior space.

Its flexible layout features a foldable second row and quick‑release third row — thus enabling multiple configurations: a seven‑seater for daily commuting, a luxurious four‑seater, a camper van, and an open‑top SUV.


Chery says this flexibility makes the SUV concept able to accommodate up to 99% of family mobility scenarios, starting from daily trips with a choice of four, six or seven passengers, with scenarios for carrying large items, long trips with more spacious cabin space, carrying out work routines, to camping experiences that offer the comfort of a mobile home.

"The vision behind this concept is to present a "Mobile Home" that holds the warmth of family, space to realise personal dreams, and freedom in adventure," says the Chinese automaker.

Built to navigate Indonesia's mountainous terrain and waterways, the Chery X concept features a fully waterproofed powertrain — including the engine, transmission, electric motors, and battery system.

With a wading depth of 700mm and 220mm ground clearance, it can navigate muddy paths and shallow streams.

Its bold exterior design — featuring the "tiger roar" front grille, "tiger eye" taillights, and three parallel "claw mark" character lines — exudes a powerful presence.

"Based on these insights, every element of the Chery X is precisely designed to answer real needs in various family situations. This vehicle was born from direct collaboration with users, not merely from our assumptions as a manufacturer," he added.
