PARIS: If a Hollywood director shooting a very French-looking scene in Paris wanted a load of baguettes and croissants to be delivered by van, then they would almost certainly use Citroën's cult Fourgonnette.

This delivery van version of the classic everyman car 2CV was synonymous with continental urban life between the 1950s and 1970s.

Now, half a century after its heyday ended, the 2CV van is back, and the French manufacturer has presented a converted Berlingo van heavily inspired by the Fourgonnette.

For an extra price just under €20,000 (RM98,104), the Italian coachbuilder Caselani will replace the front section in a promised two-week turnaround.

All other panels are covered with plastic planks in a corrugated sheet design.

The result is what the original would probably look like were it still being made today and even comes in a dozen old pastel colours that Citroën has dug out of the archives.

In terms of the modernity of the interior, next to nothing is changing, however.

The same applies to the engines: according to Citroën, the Berlingo Fourgonnette is available as an estate, van or panel van with a choice of diesel or petrol engine and, if desired, with an electric drive with a standard range of up to 285km.
