KUALA LUMPUR: The locally assembled VW Golf R that was previewed locally in August last year now has an official price.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) today announced the start of sale of the new Golf R at RM334,012 (on-the-road without insurance).
The price is inclusive of Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which supports owners with 5 years maintenance, 5 years unlimited mileage warranty, and 5 years roadside assistance.
Malaysia is the only site outside Germany that assembles the Golf R.
The Golf R comes standard with the “R Performance Package”, which includes titanium Akrapovic exhaust, 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, a new rear spoiler, as well as “Drift” and “Special” modes.
The “Drift” and “Special” modes – accessible through the “R” button on the steering wheel, extend the range of customisation modes for the drivetrain
and chassis to inject even more excitement to the driving experience.
In “Drift” mode, torque is prioritised to the rear wheels for fluid and controlled slides while the “Special” mode adjusts suspension settings for optimum contact, offering driving performance best experienced on backroads.
Specifically designed for the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the “Special” mode gives the Golf R a set-up that meets the distinctive requirements of what is
probably the most demanding racetrack in the world.
The 2.0TSI 4-cylinder turbo engine pushes out 316hp and 400Nm of torque. With a 7-speed wet-type, dual-clutch DSG transmission, the Golf R rockets
from 0-100kph in just 4.8 seconds to reach a maximum speed of 250kph.
Stability and traction is maintained via its 4Motion all-wheel drive system with performance torque vectoring.
Visually, the flagship of the Golf range is identified by its motorsport-inspired R front bumper and R radiator grille.
Three colour choices are available - the signature Lapiz Blue, Deep Black and Pure White.
The sportiness of the Golf R in the interior is evident with R decorative trim in Carbon Grey, premium Nappa sport leather seats complete with iconic R styling, as well as the R performance steering wheel with blue backlit R button and shift paddles.
Other new features include a Head-Up Display (HUD) that is projected to the windscreen, 10-inch Discover Pro infotainment system, with audio by a 10-speaker, 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system, wireless smartphone charging and automatic high beam assist.
The Golf R is supported with IQ.DRIVE technology and advanced driver assistance systems such as Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist and Emergency Assist.

The Golf R will be on display at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow, happening from May 22-26 at MAEPS in Serdang, Selangor.
Just so you know, this is not the most powerful Golf ever produced. That title goes to the Golf R 333 Limited Edition, an even beefier Golf R offered only in Germany, and limited to just 333 units. This limited edition ups the power to 329hp/420Nm and top speed is raised to 271kph. It retails for €76,410 (RM390,000).
Also on show at the Volkswagen booth will be the all-new Touareg R-Line 4Motion and Arteon R-Line 4Motion.
Customers at the autoshow will be in for a treat as Volkswagen is currently offering special promotions of savings up to RM36,000.
Those who buy an Arteon will also enjoy free scheduled maintenance for the first 7 years of ownership.
