SHAH ALAM: Proton has introduced a range of N95 cabin filters that are designed specifically for current models, such as the 2019 Proton Persona, Iriz, Exora and Saga, as well as the X70 and X50.

The N95 filters promise safer breathing environment once installed and are more efficient than the average cabin filter as they are able to filter up to 95% of particles larger than 0.3 microns and 98% of PM2.5 dust particulates.

Meanwhile, the X70 comes equipped with an additional Proton Intelligent Air Purification System (P-IAPS) for additional benefits.

The ioniser in the P-IAPS discharges negative ions to clean airborne dust, allergens and even bacteria.

The system also comes with a HEPA filter that removes 99.97% of particles and contaminants that are larger than 0.3 microns, as well as activated carbon which removes odour and formaldehyde, and sterilises, absorbs and purifies smoke particulates.

Drivers are also advised to enable the air circulation mode on the air-conditioning system achieve constant oxygen flow into the car although this increases the risk of airborne pathogens, pollutants and odours entering the cabin.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the US said an enclosed area with oxygen concentrations below 19.5% is categorised as hazardous.

The increased levels of carbon dioxide could lead to drowsiness and fatigue, which is a major concern while driving.
