Conditional MCO in Selangor, KL, Sabah extended until Jan 14

KUALA LUMPUR: The conditional MCO in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah have been extended until Jan 14, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Defence Minister said the conditional MCO for the two states and federal territory was initially scheduled to end on Dec 31.

"However, the Health Ministry had discovered an upward trend in Covid-19 positive cases in the three areas.

"Based on the advice by the Health Ministry, the special National Security Council (NSC) meeting decided to the extend conditional MCO until Jan 14," he told reporters today.

Meanwhile, in Perak, the enhanced MCO imposed on the Langkap Immigration depot and quarters in Hilir Perak has been extended until Jan 14 as well.

"The Health Ministry conducted 132 screenings and there are new positive cases while some samples are still pending," he said.

He also announced that the conditional MCO in Ipoh, Chemor and mukim Hulu Kinta ends Monday, ahead of schedule.

For Negri Sembilan, Ismail Sabri said the conditional MCO in Seremban had been extended until Jan 14 while for Port Dickson it ended Monday.

On enhanced MCO at the Seremban Prison and quarters, Ismail Sabri said it has also ended Monday as the remaining active cases are under control and no pending samples following 1,872 screenings.

In Johor, conditional MCOs in Johor Baru and Batu Pahat have been extended until Jan 14 while for Kulai, it ends Monday, he added.

"The enhanced MCO at Kluang Prison and quarters have been extended until Jan 14.

"A total of 1,974 screenings were conducted and 447 positive cases were recorded," he said.

The conditional MCO at Mukim 12 Barat Daya and Mukim 13 Timur Laut in Penang have also been extended until Jan 16.

"As of Dec 26, the number of positive cases and active clusters there are still high," he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the enhanced MCO at Kampung Dasar Baru and Kampung Desa Bajau in Lahad Datu, Sabah, ends on Tuesday (Dec 29).

"The number of positive cases at the two localities are on a downward trend," he said

For Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Maringkan Ranau, Sabah, Ismail Sabri said an enhanced MCO will be impose there from Tuesday (Dec 29) until Jan 11.

"A total of 529 screenings were conducted and 89 positive cases were recorded from the two localities," he said.

In Kelantan, there was a spike in Covid-19 cases at Madrasah Daril Naim in Padang Kalban, mukim Peringat in Kota Baru, he said.

"As of Dec 25,99 screenings were conducted and 29 positive cases were recorded while 69 others are still pending.

"Thus, we have decided to impose an enhanced MCO from Tuesday until Jan 11," he added.

At the national level, Sabri said that rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs) may need to be tightened again in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“The government will get the advice and recommendations from the Health Ministry. If it feels that we need to reimpose restrictions, we will listen.

“But for now, the ministry has not advised the National Security Council on this but we are not discounting it.”
