PUTRAJAYA: Up to three people per car are now allowed for those in areas under conditional MCO, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Defence Minister said the National Security Council special meeting had heard views and requests from the public to allow more than two people in a vehicle.
“We deliberated on the issue as there have been complaints and suggestions by some for the government to relax the ruling.
“So today, the NSC has decided to allow three people to travel in a car. This ruling will take immediate effect, ” he said today.
Among standard operating procedures in conditional MCO areas is that only two persons from the same house are allowed to go out to get essential items.
All states in the peninsula, except for Perlis, Pahang and Kelantan, are under a conditional MCO due to the rise in Covid-19 cases.
Sabah, Labuan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also under the order.
Ismail Sabri said when the two-in-a-car ruling was in effect, police had the discretion to allow more people to travel together.
He cited instances such as children taking their aged parents for medical services and couples with young children going to supermarkets where police could allow more than two people in a car.
“However, police found that it was not easy to exercise this discretion. So we have decided to allow three people in a car now, ” said Ismail Sabri.
