PETALING JAYA: Continental Tyres has unveiled the UltraContact UX7, a SUV-dedicated tyre designed with emphasis on safety, durability and a quieter drive.
The new design will be available from 15- to 22-inch to suit crossovers, and mid-sized to premium SUVs.
Being heavier and having a higher centre of gravity compared to passenger cars, SUVs require tyres with sturdier build for better overall vehicle control and stability.
The UltraContact UX7 features X-Force Macroblocks that maximises contact area with the road to create a wider footprint for better handling and stability, even around corners or uneven road surfaces or gravel.
Its Adaptive Diamond Compound uses a special formulation with silica to enhance the transformation of kinetic energy into heat at optimum levels to result in shorter braking distances on both wet and dry roads.
Meanwhile, the Aqua Channel design also quickly drains water through a unique tube system into the tread grooves to speed up water evacuation.

Even though typical SUVs are mostly driven on tarmac and rarely go off-road, the UltraContact UX7 gets the Robust360 Construction which includes a reinforced steel belt to strengthen the tyres and absorb shocks.
Aside from enhancing shape retention and direction stability, the sturdier carcass design also reduces the risk of tyre damage.
The use of Diamond Compound's polymer chains form a rigidly interlocked network and improves the tyre’s wear performance.
The precision-cut tread design optimises noise reduction performance by minimising vibrations while the Noisebreaker 3.0 technology breaks up sound waves to prevent noise building up.
Continental APAC business area replacement tyres head Dalibor Kalina said the SUV market had seen exponential growth in recent years and the company anticipate this trend would continue across the region.
"Continental Tyres is perfectly positioned to expand our consumer base with the UltraContact UX7 – not only is it optimised for SUV vehicles but also meets the demands of drivers for both urban commutes and casual off-road trips," he said.
