Denza B8 launched: 2.0T PHEV, RM459K (7-seats), RM519K (6-seats)


KUALA LUMPUR: Denza Malaysia, the official distributor of the brand in Malaysia, has expanded its lineup to now include the B8 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

This PHEV sports utility vehicle (SUV) is available in two variants, which start with the Dynamic (seven-seater) that costs RM458,800 (on-the-road without insurance).

The Premium (six-seater), which has been priced on-the-road without insurance at RM518,800 - makes this SUV the most expensive vehicle to arrive on Malaysian soil from China.

For warranty, it is accompanied by a six-year or 150,000km (whichever comes first) coverage.

Also included in a dedicated eight-year or 160,000km High Voltage Battery warranty, an eight-year or 160,000km Drive Unit Warranty and a complimentary V2L (vehicle-to-load) Adapter worth RM700.


For colours, the B8 is available in Alpine White, Dawn Gold, Eclipse Black, Emerald Green and Nebula Silver, paired with two interior themes, Onyx Black and Jasper Brown.

All exterior colours can be matched with either interior option.

The B8 is positioned as a new luxury off-road SUV that's touted to bring together electrified performance, intelligent engineering and elevated comfort into a single sophisticated package.

With a 2,920mm wheelbase, this 3,305kg (kerb) SUV measures in at 5,195mm in length, 1,994mm in width and 1,905mm in height.

Regardless of variant, the B8 is powered by a longitudinally-mounted 2.0-litre (1,997cc) turbocharged engine with dual electric motors that are powered by BYD's Blade Battery technology.


The engine provides 197PS and 350Nm of torque, while the front and rear axle-mounted electric motors (with a rear Electronic Differential System) bring up the performance figures to a combined system's output of 450kW (612PS) and 750Nm of torque.

This allows the B8 to provide four-wheel drive (4WD) capabilities, while its electrical supply comes from a 36.86kWh BYD Blade Battery that can provide up to 115km (NEDC).

Together with its internal combustion engine, the B8 is said to be able to achieve up to 1,040km (NEDC) in range, yet able to sprint from 0 to 100kph in 4.8 seconds.

The hybrid system is able to provide Pure EV, HEV Series and Parallel driving modes, as well as automatically optimise power delivery based on real-time driving conditions.


Charging capability includes up to 120kW DC fast charging, enabling 30% to 80% charge in 16 minutes, alongside up to 11kW AC charging.

The model also supports a 6.6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function for external power usage.

Additional equipment includes the DiSUS-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System that helps to enhance ride stability, comfort and adaptability across varying terrains.

The system offers up to 140mm of ride height adjustment and helps to provide a maximum water wading depth of up to 890mm, as well as approach and departure angles of 34 and 35 degrees, respectively.

Meanwhile, it rolls on 20-inch wheels fitted with 275/55 tyres that partially hide the disc brakes that come with an intelligent power brake control system.


The exterior sports a Starship Mecha-inspired design language, highlighted by Starship Wing LED daytime running lights, Energy Thruster-inspired tail lamps, and LED automatic headlights.

Inside the cabin, features a driver-centric layout, a 17.3-inch ultra high-definition touchscreen infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch embedded full LCD 3D instrument cluster, and a four-tone zone voice interaction system.

There's also Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry with push-start button, remote vehicle start, remote control air-conditioning, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Car WIFI Hotspot, 4G Network Connection, and OTA Remote Upgrade, as well as electronic, NFC, and UWB keys.


Additionally, the B8 comes with automatic wipers, welcome lights, cornering lamps, panoramic sunroof, and double-layer sound-insulating glass for the front windscreen and all doors.

There's also privacy glass for the rear doors, side glass and rear tailgate as well as power-adjustable and folding heated external mirrors with memory, soft closure doors, side-steps, second-row adjustable passenger seat with "boss controls", and power adjustability for the third-row seats, as well as power-folding functionality for the second and third row seats.

Additional standard equipment includes an adjustable centre console cup holders, multi-colour ambient lighting, LED interior lights for front, second and third rows, automatic anti-glare interior mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate controls, a Devialet 18-speaker premium audio system, and an in-car refrigerator with cooling (-6 to 6 degrees Celsius) and heating (35 to 50 degrees Celcius).


Finally, a negative ion air purifier, six USB ports (Type-A and Type-C), a 12V car power port, and two front 50W wireless chargers round up the goodies.

For safety, the B8 comes with seven airbags, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, electronic stability control, distributed traction control, controller deceleration parking, vehicle dynamic control system, electronic brake force distribution, hill-hold control, traction control, brake disc wiping system, roll movement intervention, hill descent control, brake override system and door opening warning.

Other standard safety equipment includes flat tyre stability control, driver fatigue monitoring, driver distraction detection alert, tyre pressure monitoring system, and electronic child safety lock.


To further bolster safety levels, advanced driver aid systems (ADAS) are also present, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rearward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Forward Traffic Crossing Alert, Forward Traffic Crossing Braking, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Ultrasonic Radar, High Precision Millimeter Wave Radar, and a Smart Driving Surround View 360-degree Camera system.

Opting for the Premium with its 2+2+2 seating arrangement will add on a front electronic differential system, a more premium Nappa leather upholstery, as well as power extendable thigh support and dynamic side lumbar support that automatically adjusts during cornering for both front seats.


Other upgrades include four-way powered second row seats with massage function, ventilation, and power adjustable leg rests, second row foot ambient lighting, a digital rear view mirror, a wide heads-up-display, and even a night vision system.

“The Denza B8 marks an important milestone for the brand in Malaysia as we introduce our first-ever DMO Super Hybrid technology to the market,” said BYD Malaysia managing director Jacob Ma.

With Denza being BYD's luxury arm, Ma added that the company is looking to strengthen its presence here in the country by expanding its range of vehicles to include new energy mobility solutions beyond pure electric vehicles that will help to better serve the diverse needs of Malaysians.


"This launch reflects our commitment to offering more choice in new energy vehicles, while continuing to bring advanced technology, versatility and a truly premium ownership experience to the market,” said Ma.

The B8 was unveiled at Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) and will be made available for viewing from May 22 (10am to 10pm) daily, along with other locations that include Pavilion Bukit Jalil (Level 2, Orange Zone) as well as Denza Balakong, Glenmarie, KLCC and Penang.
