Diesel to cost RM3.35 per litre starting midnight on June 10
By THE STAR | 09 June 2024PUTRAJAYA: Diesel prices nationwide will be floated and will retail at RM3.35 per litre starting midnight on June 10, says Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
This is RM1.20 more than the current price of RM2.15 per litre.
The Finance Minister II said the price is based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism formula for the month of May.
When announcing the fuel subsidy rationalisation on May 21, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said subsidies for diesel would be withdrawn for "the rich and foreigners".
In a related development, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said today a total of 33 types of public transportation and goods vehicles will continue to receive subsidised diesel through fleet cards under the Subsidised Diesel Regulation System Pilot Project.
The minister said any public transport and goods companies that have received approval under the Subsidised Diesel Regulation System Pilot Project but have yet to receive their fleet cards from fuel stations must keep their receipts starting tomorrow.
"This is to allow cash rebate claims to be made to the Finance Ministry according to the application procedures that will be announced later," he said.
The government had previously outlined an improvement to the targeted diesel subsidy initiative to manage and monitor the subsidised diesel through the fleet card system.
At the same time, Armizan also urged eligible transport companies that have not yet applied for diesel subsidy approval to do so immediately via https://mysubsidi.kpdn.gov.my and subsequently apply for fleet cards from their preferred oil companies.
"We would like to emphasise that all existing directives and regulations related to the sale of diesel remain in force and applicable with the announcement of this new diesel price," noted Armizan.
Diesel subsidies will also continue for certain categories of fishermen.
Cash aid of RM200 would also be given to eligible individuals who own private diesel-powered vehicles, such as small traders and farmers, among others. As of June 8, more than 30,000 applicants have been approved to receive the aid.
The diesel subsidy will first be rationalised in the peninsula and will only be implementated in Sabah and Sarawak later.
