Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen to introduce Hedmos electric SUV

WUHAN: Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile today launched its new energy vehicle brand, Hedmos, according to Yiche News.

The name Hedmos, derived from "head+most", implies leadership and advanced technology. Its Chinese name is "Shijie".

The brand’s debut model would be an all-electric SUV scheduled for pre-sale in April before launching in May, with a price range of 100,000 to 150,000 yuan (between RM62,000 and RM92,000).

It is 4,670mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,617mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,775mm.

The vehicle is powered by a 160kW electric motor and uses lithium iron phosphate batteries to achieve a top speed of 170kph.

Additional industry insights reveal that the launch is part of a strategic move by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile, a joint venture between Dongfeng and Stellantis based here.

It once sold 700,000 vehicles in 2015, but has suffered a marked decline, with wholesale sales plummeting to 50,000 units by 2020.

The "Hedmos" and "Shijie" trademarks were registered from 2019, indicating plans were already afoot to revitalise the brand.

The company plans to leverage the existing sales networks of Dongfeng Citroen and Dongfeng Peugeot, ensuring an integrated marketing approach.
