Driver who tried to evade roadblock and drove against traffic flow caught at home
By THE STAR | 13 November 2020IPOH: Police arrested a 34-year-old man who drove against the flow of traffic along the North-South Expressway near Sungkai.
Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the man was returning to Bidor from Klang for Deepavali after undergoing a Covid-19 test in Klang.
“When he realised there was a police roadblock at the exit of the Sungkai toll, he reversed his Perodua Axia (before reaching toll booth), and drove 1.4km against the flow of traffic on the north-bound lane.
Supt Wan Azharuddin described the incident that took place at about 6pm on Wednesday at KM355: “A Toyota Rush on the right lane could not avoid the Axia, crashed head on and spun a few times, while a trailer transporting glove-making machines also crashed into it.”
“The driver of the Toyota Rush from Kedah sustained minor injuries, while the suspect and the trailer driver were not injured,” he said, adding that when police arrived, the suspect’s car was not at the scene.
Supt Wan Azharuddin said the Axia driver was arrested at his house in Bidor at about 11am yesterday. The case will be investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act.
