Dunlop aims for long-term growth in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Global tyre brand Dunlop is taking strong steps to expand its local presence under stewardship of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia and backed by the engineering expertise of Sumitomo Rubber Industries.

Toyotsu Binter Malaysia managing director Marcus Lim said Malaysia has an annual vehicle sales of over 800,000 units that offers growth opportunities for replacement and factory-fitted tyres.

"Malaysia is an important market for Dunlop and we see tremendous opportunities for long-term growth.

"Motorists are looking for products that deliver quality, safety and performance, but they also expect genuine value.

"That is where we see Dunlop's opportunity.

"Our ambition is to establish Dunlop as an emerging premium brand by making premium performance accessible to more Malaysian motorists,” he said at a press conference here.

Dunlop became the first tyre manufacturer to establish local production in the country in 1963, laying the foundation for one of Malaysia's most recognised brands.

Lim also said Dunlop has expanded its nationwide dealer network by more than 30%, growing from about 150 outlets to over 200 outlets since May.

"At the heart of our strategy is building strong, long-term partnerships across Malaysia's automotive aftermarket,” he said.

He said Dunlop is widening its product lineup in Malaysia which includes Blue Response TG for daily passenger vehicles, SP Sport Maxx 060+ for performance cars, and Grandtrek R/T01 for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-up trucks.

In the pipeline is the e.Sport Maxx for performance electric vehicles.

The brand also supplies tyres for selected models from auto makers which include Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda and Leapmotor.

Sumitomo Rubber Asia (Tyre) Pte Ltd managing director Takehiko Asai said Dunlop has placed innovation as a priority.

"Our focus extends beyond conventional tyre development.

"We are investing in next-generation technologies that enhance energy efficiency, improve wet-weather grip, reduce rolling resistance and cabin noise, while exploring intelligent tyre technologies that will support the future of connected and electrified mobility," he said.
