East Klang Valley Expressway ready by Q3 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: The developer of the East Klang Valley Expressway, EKVE Sdn Bhd, has said that the project is on course to be completed by the third quarter of 2021 despite being hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 36.1km highway has reached about 80 per cent in construction progress even though activities were halted for over two months during the Movement Control Order.

"The remaining 20 per cent of work progress includes bridgework, road pavement, toll collection system, traffic control surveillance system, toll plaza building and street lighting, among others," said a company spokesman.

He said the company has been gradually increasing the number of workers after it resumed construction works in May.

"To date, the total number of construction workers at site is 350. We are gradually increasing the number of workers in order to expedite construction works. We will share more news in due course," he said.

The EKVE is an orbital system of ring roads around Greater Kuala Lumpur and it forms the eastern part of the KL Outer Ring Road.

The expressway will act as an alternative route to the Middle Ring Road 2 by providing bypasses for north-south bound traffic without traffic entering the Kuala Lumpur city centre, hence reducing congestion.

The expressway will be a dual-two lane tolled highway between Bandar Sungai Long and Ukay Perdana, with a mainline distance of 24.16km and 12km of spur roads.

Once each section of the expressway has reached its capacity, that section will be expanded to a dual-three lane configuration.

EKVE Sdn Bhd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd, a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia. It specialises in civil and construction works.
