KUALA LUMPUR: An enhanced movement control order (MCO) will be imposed in most parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur from tomorrow until July 16, and only selected factories are allowed to operate.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said only factories producing rice, bread, sugar, cooking oil, wheat, fresh milk, baby formula, medicine and face masks will be allowed to operate throughout the period.
He said the enhanced MCO was needed given the rise in Covid-19 cases.
“Selangor recorded an average of 1,800 to 1,900 cases daily while Kuala Lumpur has between 600 and 1,000 cases daily.
“All districts in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded Covid-19 case incidents of more than 12.1 per 100,000 residents.
“R-naught in both states are still around 1.0 and do not show a downward trend.
“This is a worrying situation, taking into account the density of residents and the spread of three new variants which are much more dangerous.
“After a discussion involving various agencies and risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the National Security Council has decided to impose enhanced MCO at several sub districts in Selangor and a few localities in Kuala Lumpur from July 3 until July 16,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Ismail Sabri said all residents in the enhanced MCO areas are not allowed to leave their homes except for one person from each home who will be allowed to buy basic necessities within 10km of their homes,” he said.
“No movement outside of homes beyond 8pm, unless for emergencies or with prior approval from the police.
“Only one passenger is allowed inside taxis and e-hailing vehicles.”
However, inter-district and inter-state travel will be permitted for those with vaccination appointments,” he said.
“Those with appointments must provide proof such as via the Mysejahtera application.
“Airports and harbours will be allowed to operate as per normal.
“Public transport will also be allowed to operate at a 50% capacity.
“Only essential services such as utilities, sewage and cleaning can operate from 8am to 8pm.
Those not in the approved list of services are prohibited from working onsite.
“Employers must comply by providing leave or enforcing work from home orders,” he said.
As for restaurants, only take away or drive through services will be allowed, Ismail Sabri said.
Petrol stations will be allowed to open from 6am to 8am, however, those along highways can run for 24 hours, he added.
“Wholesale markets are allowed to operate from 12am to 6am. Pasar tani (farmers market) and markets can operate from 6am to 2pm.
“No sports, social and recreational activities are allowed throughout this period,” he said.
