KUALA LUMPUR: EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tenaga Switchgear Sdn Bhd (TSG) to roll out battery swapping stations and related infrastructure across Asean, including Malaysia.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, EPMB said its wholly owned subsidiary EP Blueshark Sdn Bhd signed the MoU with TSG, a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) for the collaboration.

It said the collaboration was pursuant to EPMB’s electric vehicle (EV) venture and carbon credit ambitions.

Both parties will also explore the possibilities of unifying the battery swapping stations and infrastructure networks in the target markets. In addition, the MoU seeks to explore the possibilities of deploying battery swapping stations via TSG’s network in the region.

“The group is working to commercially roll out its two-wheeler EV business in Malaysia and expand further into other Asean countries. For this to take place without interruption, we need a well-built battery swapping station infrastructure in the markets we are eyeing to penetrate,” EPMB acting chief executive officer Lim Sim Yee said in a separate statement.

Present at the MoU were  Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief strategy & ventures officer Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, Tenaga Switchgear Sdn Bhd managing director Ir. Ahmad Sazree Abd Aziz, EP Manufacturing Bhd executive chairman Hamidon Abdullah and Blueshark Ecosystem Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Jeff Chong.
