BRUSSELS: For the first time, the seven finalists for the 2027 Car of the Year award - Europe’s prestigious automotive award - are all 100% electric vehicles.
In other words, none of the cars competing to be the best in Europe has a combustion engine.
The seven finalists for the 2027 edition of ‘The Car of the Year’ award are the BMW iX3, Cupra Raval, Hyundai Ioniq 3, Kia EV2, Renault Twingo, Volkswagen ID.Polo and Volvo EX60.
The winner will take over the European crown from Mercedes-Benz CLA, which won last year’s award.
A statement from the award jury noted that the fuel crisis triggered by the war in Iran has driven an increase in the number of electric car users.

Established in 1964, the Car of the Year award is judged by 65 automotive journalists representing 25 European countries.
The jury assesses new vehicles against criteria including technical innovation, design, safety, driving performance and value for money.
On Nov 25 and 26, all members of the jury will meet at the Balocco circuit (Italy) to thoroughly test the seven finalists and establish the criteria for selecting the best Car of the Year in Europe.
Until Dec 31, the jury members will be able to cast their votes, allocating 25 points amongst the finalists, and must designate a winning model in each round of voting with a maximum of 10 points.
The award will be presented on Jan 8, 2027 at the Brussels Motor Show, the same venue as the last three editions of the award.
