LONDON: With Chris Evans onboard as the new host of Top Gear, he's now looking for co-hosts to work with him and the person could even be from Malaysia.

The search for two co-hosts is worldwide and the right person for the show can be of any gender, age, famous or ordinary folk.

Those applying for the jobs must have "a real appetite for cars".

"If you're up for it, we want to hear from you," the Radio 2 DJ was quoted by the BBC, "but you've got to know about cars".

Applicants must be aged over 16 and should record a video clip not exceeding 30 seconds. "It should just be you, to camera from the waist up. No stunts, no gimmicks, just you talking to camera," said Evans.

Evans and his production team will eventually shortlist the select few for a live audition. Top Gear today  nnounced on its website where applicants could send their clips and other details.

Rumours about Evans getting female co-hosts are just that at the moment as BBC Two controller Kim Shillinglaw said that although female applicants would be considered, the decision "will be about what's right for the show."

The vacancies are effectively positions to replace James May and Richard Hammond, co-hosts with former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson. Clarkson was sacked for punching a producer in March.

Celebrities Suzi Perry and Jodie Kidd's names have been bandied around as potential candidates to replace May and Hammond. Perry is a Formula One presenter while Kidd hosts the Classic Car Show.

BBC is said to be paying Evans £5m (RM30mil) to helm Top Gear for three years. He will continue with his Breakfast Show slot on BBC Radio 2.
