SHAH ALAM: UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has launched the GR Yaris automatic variant at RM325,600.
Originally launched in 2021, the GR Yaris has earned its reputation as a rally-inspired machine engineered for pure driving fun.
Earlier this year, UMWT unveiled the facelifted model with a manual transmission.
That momentum now continues with the launch of a new variant featuring the 8-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission.
Developed with feedback from the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team, the 8-speed automatic transmission delivers fast and precise gear shifts based on how the driver engages the accelerator and brake.
Unlike conventional automatics that respond to vehicle behaviour, this system reads driver intent early, providing sharper response and a more connected feel during spirited driving.

At the heart of the GR Yaris remains the world’s most powerful 3-cylinder turbocharged engine.
Still delivering 300PS and 400Nm of torque, it propels the car from 0 to 100kph in just 5.2 seconds.
For the automatic variant, this high-output powertrain is paired with a standard cooling package that includes a sub radiator, intercooler spray, and a combined water-cooled and air-cooled ATF cooler to ensure consistent performance even in hot Malaysian conditions.
The GR Yaris automatic variant also introduces Launch Control, a performance feature that optimises engine torque and traction to deliver sharper, more controlled acceleration from a standstill.
The GR Yaris automatic variant comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes enhanced Pre-Collision and Radar Cruise Control systems, Lane Tracing Assist, and Expert Mode for experienced drivers who want more dynamic control without fully disengaging stability systems.
