Expert: China on track to produce 7.9 million electric cars in 2025

BEIJING: China is on track to produce 7.9 million fully electric vehicles this year, cementing its dominance in global EV manufacturing, German automotive analyst Ferdinand Dudenhoffer told dpa.

Production in the first nine months reached 6.5 million, up 45% from a year earlier, and is growing faster than global EV sales.

According to consulting firm PwC, worldwide sales of fully electric cars rose 36% over the same period.

That leaves China with an increasing share of global output.

By comparison, German plants built about 916,000 EVs in the first nine months, industry group VDA said.

BYD remains China's biggest EV producer with nearly 1.6 million units, accounting for close to a quarter of national output and pushing further into European markets.

Geely followed with 836,000 and Tesla with 603,000 units, Dudenhöffer said.

China is cementing its role as the world's central hub for EV manufacturing, he added.

For Germany, traditionally one of the world's leading car-producing nations, the widening gap poses a major competitive challenge, according to the expert.
