Fast flow toll system’s proof of concept to use RFID and number plate recognition at Sungai Besi Expressway
By THE STAR | 30 March 2023PETALING JAYA: The upcoming Multi Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) toll system to be implemented at the Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) will use both Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), according to the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA).
MHA’s announcement via its Twitter page said that the proof of concept for the MLFF system would be implemented on the highway by the end of October 2023.
It added that the use of both RFID and ANPR in the proof of concept was determined following research by the MLFF Technical Committee, Value Assessment Lab and Value Engineering Lab, along with the involvement of various technical agencies.
The implementation at Besraya is meant to function as a test to determine the effectiveness of the MLFF system’s front end gantry against set key performance indicators in highway operation.
This comes after Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi's announcement of the MLFF toll system implementation at Besraya.
Nanta had also announced that five additional highways has been added to the upcoming open toll payment system to begin in mid-September of this year.
The five new additions are the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Sprint Highway, Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Smart Tunnel and the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (Mex).
Tolls originally included in the open payment system are Besraya, New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) and the Penang Bridge.
