Ferrari 849 Testarossa: Plug-in, twin-turbo V8 and 1,050CV

MILAN: The new Ferrari 849 Testarossa is a hybrid plug-in super sports berlinetta with three electric motors alongside the mid-rear twin-turbo V8, delivering 1,050CV, which is an absolute record for a production Ferrari.

This is also 50CV more than the SF90 Stradale it replaces.

Ferrari said the 849 Testarossa was conceived for the most demanding clients, and its name draws on a 70-year heritage of some of the most iconic Ferraris ever built.

It is also the reason for the return of a legendary name in Maranello’s history, Testa Rossa.

The new turbo is the largest ever for a Ferrari production car, enabling unprecedented acceleration.

The on-demand four-wheel drive system and torque vectoring maximise performance in all conditions.

Meanwhile, four electric driving modes can be selected via the eManettino — eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify — optimising performance in all conditions.

In eDrive mode, the car can travel up to 25km in electric drive only thanks to the 7.45 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Also, the introduction of ABS Evo and the new Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE) make the 849 Testarossa’s electronic controls the most advanced in the Ferrari range.

Ferrari’s ABS Evo controller improves braking precision and consistency in all conditions.

Extensive component weight reduction has allowed the 849 Testarossa to boast the best power-to-weight ratio ever for a range model.

As for styling, the 849 Testarossa took inspiration from 1970s sports prototypes, together with sharp and geometric lines.

Its downforce of 415kg at 250kph is a 25kg increase over the SF90 Stradale, as well as providing a 15% boost in cooling power for the powertrain and brakes.

Meanwhile, the cockpit is even more enveloping and ergonomic than before.

The central sail motif with the integrated gear-change gate, inspired by the F80, improves the positioning of components and makes them more accessible.

The new steering wheel, equipped with mechanical buttons (including the iconic engine start button), elevates the driving experience.

Driver assistance systems include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Automatic Emergency Braking with Cyclist Detection, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Automatic High Beam, Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and driver fatigue monitoring.

Regarding the car's sonic dimension, the sound level has been increased at all speeds.

Moving up towards the limiter set at 8,300rpm, the power of the powertrain manifests itself explosively, with an immersive experience involving sound, acceleration and vibration.
