Ferrari SP-8 the latest One-Off from Maranello

By CARSIFU | 25 October 2023

MARANELLO: Ferrari has revealed its latest addition to the One-Off series, the Ferrari SP-8.

Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre and part of the Special Projects programme, the SP-8 is a mid-rear-engined V8 based on the F8 Spider. It joins the exclusive segment of unique cars made to individual clients' specifications.

The SP-8 gets its name from its 3.9-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, which has won the prestigious Engine of the Year award four times in a row. The number 8 is also significant as it is considered lucky in Chinese culture, symbolising success and good fortune.

The most distinctive feature of the SP-8 is its lack of a roof, making it a two-seater roadster that emphasises its sporty character and provides an exhilarating driving experience.

Extensive aerodynamic refinement was done through CFD simulations, wind tunnel testing, and track testing to ensure acoustic comfort and wind feeling comparable to the car that inspired it.

The car's design focuses on the fusion of its volumes, with the carbon-fiber front wrapping around to the tail, creating a two-tone effect.

The removal of the retractable hard top allowed for a radical restyling of the tail section, giving it a full volume with a taut belt line. The front of the car features an imposing full-width, cast aluminum grille with a vertical strake theme, optimized for airflow to the front radiators.

Other redesigned elements include the headlights, rear lights, windscreen, tailpipes, and specially-designed wheel rims. The interior features modifications to the central console to accommodate the F1 gearbox commands and seats with laser-etched Navy Blue Alcantara details.

The SP-8 is finished in a matte Argento Micalizzato color, paired with a carbon-fibre section in a glossy iridescent Blue Sandstone finish. It will be on display at the Mugello Circuit until the end of the Finali Mondiali Ferrari 2023, and then at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello from Nov 16, 2023, until March 2024.

The Special Projects programme aims to create unique Ferraris, known as "One-Offs," tailored to the client's requirements.

Each project is developed in collaboration with Ferrari's Styling Centre, taking around two years to complete. The client is closely involved in the design and verification phases, resulting in a one-of-a-kind Ferrari that upholds the brand's standards of excellence.
