DETROIT: Ford’s smartest, most innovative truck yet will be all-electric and called F-150 Lightning. The all-new F-150 Lightning will be revealed today at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn near here and livestreamed for millions to watch.

The F-150 Lightning boasts fresh innovation, technologies and capabilities to the F-Series, America’s best-selling vehicle, combined with the hallmark power, payload and towing capability.

The reveal takes place at 9.30pm EDT (9.30am Thursday in Malaysia), from the Ford base and would be broadcast live with 30+ ways to watch across physical and digital destinations, including the Ford Facebook and YouTube channels, Twitter, key national publications as well as 18 out-of-home locations such as Times Square in New York City and Las Vegas Boulevard.

“America’s favourite vehicle for nearly half a century is going digital and fully electric. F-150 Lightning can power your home during an outage; it’s even quicker than the original F-150 Lightning performance truck; and it will constantly improve through over-the-air updates.”

Production of the F-150 Lightning begins next spring at the all-new Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Centre.

US president Joe Biden who drove the F-150 Lightning briefly today was impressed.

"This sucker's quick," he told reporters, adding it could go from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. "It feels great."

Biden was on a visit to the Ford electric-vehicle plant to see the F-150 Lightning.
